You know those photos of yourself that you actually really like? The ones where your outfit is on point, your hair behaved for once and you somehow managed to catch yourself on a good day? Instead of letting those photos disappear into your camera roll, you can now turn them into something completely different: you, as a sticker.
And I’m not talking about a generic cartoon version of yourself or one of those AI avatars that vaguely resembles you. I’m talking about taking an actual photograph and transforming it into a polished, illustrated version of you, while keeping your face, outfit, accessories, pose and overall look recognisable.
There is something ridiculously fun about seeing yourself this way. It’s still you, but with a slightly animated, glossy, almost editorial feel. And once you’ve created one, you might be surprised by just how many things you can do with it.
Give your Instagram Stories a little more personality
One of my favourite uses is Instagram Stories. Rather than relying on the same collection of GIFs, emojis and stickers that everyone has access to, you can create something that is completely personal to you.
Imagine posting a picture of your morning coffee with a tiny sticker version of yourself sitting next to it. Or having your sticker pointing towards your latest blog post, celebrating a Friday, reacting to something funny or popping up in the corner of a holiday photo. You can even create different versions of yourself for different types of content, so your stickers become a little part of your visual style.
Create different versions of yourself
And this is where I think it gets really addictive. Once you’ve made one sticker, you start thinking about all the other versions you could create.
You could have your morning-coffee version, your gym version, your dressed-up-for-dinner version and your holiday version. You could create one holding flowers, one surrounded by hearts and another covered in stars. You can choose the photograph and let the little illustrated details reflect whatever is happening in the original image.
Eventually, you could have an entire collection of tiny illustrated versions of yourself, each one capturing a different mood, outfit or moment.
Make your WhatsApp messages more fun
Your sticker doesn’t have to live on Instagram. It can become part of your everyday WhatsApp conversations too. Imagine having your own collection of little illustrated reactions instead of reaching for the same old emojis every time.
You could create one of yourself looking horrified, one laughing, one celebrating, one holding a coffee and, obviously, one that perfectly captures your “I cannot believe you just told me that” face. If you create them with your friends, you could even have a whole collection of personalised stickers based on your friendship group’s personalities and inside jokes.
Use them in your Canva designs
If you create content, you can take this idea even further. Your sticker can become a little visual character that appears throughout your Canva designs, blog graphics, social posts, presentations or newsletters.
Instead of always having to find another stock image to fill a space, you can use your own sticker as a design element. It can point at something, sit beside a heading, add a little humour to a graphic or simply make a design feel more recognisably yours.
And because you’re creating your own images, you aren’t limited to whatever happens to be available in a stock-image library.
Put yourself on the invitation
If you’re hosting a birthday, girls’ lunch, dinner party or weekend away, why use a generic image when you can put yourself on the invitation? Your sticker could be holding a cocktail, surrounded by balloons, wearing a party hat or simply looking fabulous.
It is such a small detail, but it can make a digital invitation, birthday message or event graphic feel much more personal. And because you can create the sticker from an actual photograph, you can even recreate the outfit you’re planning to wear.
Or don’t use it for anything at all
Of course, you don’t actually need a reason.
You can make one simply because it’s fun.
I think that’s what I like most about this particular AI experiment. So much of the conversation around AI-generated images seems to be about making ourselves look younger, more glamorous, more polished or somehow different from the person we actually are.
This isn’t really about that.
It’s about taking a photograph of yourself and turning it into something playful. Your face is still your face. Your outfit is still your outfit. Your hair, accessories and personality are still there. You’ve simply turned the photograph into a little piece of illustrated art.
And honestly, at 40+, I think we’ve earned the right to have a little fun with our photos.
Here’s the AI sticker prompt
I’ve created a prompt that does the hard work for you. All you need to do is upload a photograph of yourself and copy and paste the entire prompt below.
For the most accurate result, I’d recommend choosing a clear photograph where your full body is visible. That gives the AI enough information to recreate your pose, proportions, outfit and accessories properly.
Copy and paste this entire prompt:
Use my uploaded photograph as the sole identity reference for the person(s) in this image. Transform the photo into a high-quality personalised sticker that is 2D and slightly animated, while keeping the people in the photo recognisable. Turn my photo into a stylish, polished sticker illustration with a slightly dimensional, premium finish. Keep outfit, colours and accessories from the original photograph recognisable and faithfully recreated. Create a fun, expressive sticker aesthetic with clean illustrated detailing, subtle shading, smooth edges and a slightly glossy finish. Show full bodies, maintaining original poses and proportions. Place the people against a clean, simple background with animated elements that align to the theme of the photograph i.e. hearts, stars, cupcakes etc. and surround the entire figure(s) with a thick white sticker border, with a subtle shadow underneath to give the sticker a realistic die-cut appearance. The final result should look like a professionally designed custom lifestyle sticker made from my photograph – fun, fashionable and polished. Do not: add extra people, add text, logos or watermarks.
And that’s it.
Upload your photo, paste the prompt and see what happens.
One photo. One prompt. Your own little sticker.
And then, of course, comes the hardest part: deciding which version of yourself you’re going to turn into a sticker next.
