If you’re looking for a METALAB protein powder review, here’s my honest take on METALAB Bridge protein powder, the flavours I’ve tried, and why Salted Caramel has become a permanent fixture in my kitchen.

METALAB Protein Powder at a glance

  • Protein per serving: Around 26.5g in the current Bridge formula
  • Protein source: Whey protein concentrate and whey protein isolate
  • My favourite flavour: Salted Caramel
  • Other flavours I’ve tried: Matcha & White Choc and Chocolate Milk
  • Best for: Anyone looking for a protein powder that tastes good enough to actually use consistently
  • My verdict: A protein powder I genuinely keep coming back to

I’ve tried a lot of protein powders.

Some have been good. Some have been very good. And some have been abandoned halfway through the tub because, despite my best intentions, I just couldn’t bring myself to drink another shake.

METALAB is different.

It’s one of those products that has actually become part of my routine – and not because I decided I should be drinking more protein.

I genuinely want to drink it.

And that distinction matters.

My METALAB obsession started during pregnancy

I first became properly obsessed with METALAB during my pregnancies.

Getting enough protein was something I was conscious of, but I also wanted food and drinks that felt satisfying. Pregnancy is already a full-time exercise in managing hunger, cravings and the ever-changing list of things you suddenly cannot stand the sight of.

I also have a sweet tooth.

So I started making myself a really simple protein milkshake:

Ice + water + collagen +  METALAB Salted Caramel.

And it was ridiculously good.

It was cold, thick and tasted like a Freezochino, but it also gave me a decent protein hit and some much-needed hydration.

It became one of those little routines that made eating well feel easy.

No complicated recipe. No enormous list of ingredients. No pretending that a green smoothie tastes like a milkshake.

Just blend it and drink it.

It’s still one of my favourite ways to use METALAB.

Salted Caramel is the one

I’ve tried the Chocolate Milk flavour, and it’s nice. I’d happily drink it. But I’m going to be completely honest: I’m a Salted Caramel girl.

I know salted caramel is one of those very divisive flavours. You either love it or you really, really don’t. But I actually think METALAB’s version is a little different. To me, it leans more towards a French vanilla with that subtle salted caramel note, rather than an intensely sweet caramel flavour.

And that’s probably why I love it so much.

The other thing I like is that it can completely hold its own as a flavour, but it’s also incredibly versatile. If I want to bump up the antioxidants and vitamin C in my shake, I can throw in blueberries, strawberries or kiwi and it still tastes delicious.

And sometimes I’ll add coffee or cocoa.

Basically, Salted Caramel is the perfect blank canvas for whatever I’m feeling that day.

Which means I’ve yet to get bored of it – and, given how many protein powders I’ve tried over the years, that’s saying something.

Why I like METALAB Bridge

The current METALAB Bridge formula provides around 26.5g of protein per serving, with whey protein concentrate and whey protein isolate as its main protein sources.

For me, that’s enough protein to make a shake genuinely useful without needing to turn it into a complicated meal.

And I like that it’s straightforward.

I’m not looking for a protein powder that promises to transform my entire life. I want something that:

  • tastes good
  • mixes well
  • gives me a meaningful amount of protein
  • is easy to fit into my day
  • doesn’t feel like punishment

METALAB ticks those boxes for me.

Is METALAB Protein Powder Worth It?

For me, yes. The biggest reason isn’t that it has a particularly impressive-sounding ingredient list or makes huge promises – it’s that I actually enjoy drinking it, which means I’m much more likely to use it consistently.

I’ve tried enough protein powders to know that taste matters. If I don’t like the flavour, the tub eventually ends up sitting in the cupboard. With METALAB, that hasn’t happened.

If you’re considering METALAB Bridge specifically, I’d say its biggest strengths are flavour, versatility and convenience. My clear favourite is Salted Caramel, but the Matcha & White Choc has also become a surprisingly good winter option.

The pregnancy and breastfeeding question

Because I used METALAB during pregnancy and breastfeeding, this is probably the question I’d be most interested in if I were reading someone else’s review.

METALAB states that its Bridge protein is suitable for pregnancy and breastfeeding.

I personally used it during those periods, but I wouldn’t translate that into “protein powder is automatically safe for everyone during pregnancy.”

Pregnancy and breastfeeding are not the time to take nutritional advice from a stranger on the internet, even if that stranger is very enthusiastic about salted caramel.

Always check the specific product and ingredients with your doctor, midwife or dietitian, particularly if you have allergies, medical conditions or other dietary considerations.

For me, though, it was an incredibly convenient way to add protein during two periods of my life when convenience mattered a lot.

Then I discovered the winter version

For most of the year, I’m perfectly happy drinking my protein shake over ice. But then winter arrived. And suddenly the idea of drinking a giant icy milkshake wasn’t nearly as appealing.

So I bought the Matcha & White Choc flavour. I love matcha, so I was curious. And then I had a slightly random idea: What if I made it hot?

I wasn’t expecting much. But it was so good. Warm, creamy, slightly sweet and comforting. It completely changed the way I thought about protein powder. I simply put a scoop in a mug, mixed some cold water with it, then added some hot water and stirred again.

I’d always associated protein shakes with something cold and post-workout-ish. But this felt more like a cosy winter drink that happened to contain protein.

The Matcha & White Choc flavour provides around 25.9g of protein per serving, using whey protein concentrate and isolate alongside matcha powder.

So now my METALAB routine has basically become seasonal.

Summer: Salted Caramel protein milkshake over ice.

Winter: Hot Matcha & White Choc.

I’m quite pleased with myself about this discovery.

Is METALAB a clean protein powder?

“Clean” is one of those words that gets thrown around a lot in the wellness world, so I don’t want to pretend it’s a scientific or regulated category.

What I mean when I describe METALAB as relatively straightforward is that its Bridge protein is primarily a whey protein product, rather than a supplement trying to be everything at once.

It contains whey protein concentrate and isolate, digestive enzymes and sweetener, among other ingredients.

For me, that’s exactly what I want from a protein powder. Protein. Good flavour. Easy to use. Done.

Why I think taste actually matters

This is probably the biggest thing I’ve learned from using protein powders. The “best” protein powder isn’t necessarily the one with the most impressive nutrition panel. It’s the one you’re actually going to use.

Because hitting a protein target sounds incredibly straightforward until you realise you need another 25–30g and you’re standing in your kitchen wondering how you’re going to make that happen.

If you have a protein powder you genuinely enjoy, suddenly it’s much easier.

For me, METALAB has become one of those little shortcuts. It’s not replacing proper food. It’s not magic. It’s simply an easy, enjoyable way to get more protein into my day. And sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

My METALAB flavour ranking

So, after trying a few:

🥇 Salted Caramel: My clear winner. It’s the flavour I keep buying.

🥈 Matcha & White Choc: The surprise favourite – particularly when made hot.

🥉 Chocolate Milk: Really nice, but I’m still choosing caramel.

Sorry, chocolate.

My Verdict: Would I buy metalab again?

Obviously.

I’ve already told you I’m obsessed with the Salted Caramel.

But I think the more interesting part of my experience is that I’ve used it through very different phases of life – pregnancy, breastfeeding, busy days, sweet cravings and now my slightly more serious I need to hit my protein target era.

It’s earned its place in my kitchen because I actually use it.

And that’s what I look for in wellness products now.

Not whether they’re trendy.

Not whether everyone on Instagram is talking about them.

Will I still be using this six months from now?

With METALAB, the answer appears to be yes. Although, I do like to throw in a USN Hardcore Whey every now an again, as a delicious alternative.

If you’re trying METALAB for the first time…

My advice?

Get Salted Caramel.

Then make my 34g protein, 158-calorie milkshake.

And if you’re reading this in the middle of winter, get the Matcha & White Choc too.

Make it hot.

Thank me later.
