AI Prompt: Hair Colour Analysis

Have you ever walked out of the hair salon absolutely convinced you’ve made a terrible mistake?

Or seen a hair colour on someone else and thought, “That would look amazing on me” – only to discover that what makes her look luminous makes you look slightly… grey?

Hair colour can completely change how your complexion looks. The right shade can make your skin appear brighter, your eyes more noticeable and your whole face look fresher. The wrong shade can do the exact opposite, making you look washed out, tired or somehow more sallow than you were five minutes ago.

And after 40, when we’re already doing enough detective work trying to work out why we suddenly look tired when we’ve actually had a full night’s sleep, choosing the right hair colour can make a surprisingly big difference.

The trick is understanding which colours work with your natural colouring, rather than simply choosing the shade that’s currently trending.

That’s where the AI Hair Colour Analysis comes in.

Using the results from your Personal Colour Analysis, this prompt looks at your skin tone, undertone, eye colour, natural hair pigment and contrast level to help identify your most flattering hair colour direction.

You’ll get personalised recommendations for your overall hair colour, highlights and dimension, as well as shades that may be less harmonious with your colouring.

With this AI Hair Colour Analysis, you’ll discover:

  • Your ideal hair colour direction
  • Your most flattering hair shades
  • Highlight and dimension ideas
  • Hair colours that may be less flattering
  • Care and maintenance advice
  • Your best overall shade direction

The aim isn’t necessarily to convince you to become a completely different colour. Sometimes your most flattering hair colour is surprisingly close to what you already have – it might simply need to be a little warmer, cooler, lighter, deeper or softer.

And if you are considering a colour change, this gives you something much more useful to take to your hairdresser than saying, “I want to look like Jennifer Aniston.”

Get started:

Before begining, it is recommended that you read the photo guide. Then follow the instructions below. Everything in green should be pasted into ChatGPT* along with the recommended photos.

Copy/paste the prompt below into ChatGPT and upload your front-facing selfie (1).

You are a world-class celebrity hairstylist, editorial hair director, trichologist, image consultant, colour consultant and facial aesthetics specialist. Using the colour season you identified me as and the same design criteria, create a personalised beauty portfolio image titled: “Your Hair Colour Analysis” using the same style instructions and verifications.

Include:

  • A portrait of me based on the front-facing uploaded selfie with my best hair colour
  • My hair profile
  • Current hair colour direction
  • Natural tone
  • Overall assessment

Also include sections for:

  • Your Most Flattering Hair colours and use my selfie to demonstrate this
  • Dimension & Highlight Ideas
  • Colours To Avoid
  • Your Best Overall Shade Direction
  • Care & Maintenance Tips For You

Use realistic hair colour swatches and small hair colour examples. Recommend hair colours that harmonise with my skin tone, eyes, contrast level, and overall colouring.

*AI prompt hair colour analysis FAQ

Which AI Should I Use?

These prompts have been specifically designed and extensively tested for ChatGPT. You are welcome to experiment with other AI platforms if you wish, but results may vary significantly. Because every AI model interprets prompts differently, I cannot guarantee the same level of quality or accuracy outside of ChatGPT.

What if I only have the free version of ChatGPT?

If you’re using the free version of ChatGPT, you may reach your daily usage limit before completing every prompt in the personal style system, and that’s completely okay. Simply start a new chat when you’re able and upload your photograph again before continuing with the next prompt. Please note that free ChatGPT accounts may only allow approximately 2–3 image analyses or reports per day, depending on OpenAI’s current usage limits. These limits may change over time and are outside of my control.

How does my colour season help determine my best hair colour?

Your colour season provides a useful starting point for finding hair colours that harmonise with your natural colouring. The analysis considers your skin tone, undertone, eye colour, natural hair pigment and contrast level to recommend a hair colour direction that complements rather than competes with your features. Your best shade might be warmer, cooler, softer, deeper or brighter than your current colour — and sometimes a subtle change can make a surprisingly big difference.

What if I already colour my hair?

That’s absolutely fine. Your natural colouring is still the most important reference point. If your hair is coloured, the prompt asks you to provide a photograph of your natural roots so the analysis can assess your underlying hair pigment. This helps prevent your current dye colour from influencing the recommendations. The analysis can then suggest your most flattering overall shade, as well as ideas for highlights, lowlights and dimension that work with your natural colouring.

Will the hair colour analysis tell me exactly what colour to ask my hairdresser for?

It can give you a much better idea of your ideal colour direction and shade family, along with specific colour suggestions and inspiration to take to your hairdresser. However, a photograph can’t account for everything a professional colourist considers, including your existing colour, previous chemical treatments, hair condition and how your hair will actually lift or take colour. Think of the AI analysis as your colour inspiration and starting point, rather than a substitute for professional hair-colour advice. For an even more cohesive look, you can combine your hair recommendations with your AI Makeup Colour Analysis to create a complete beauty colour palette.

What are the six Personal Style prompts?

The Personal Style System includes six personalised AI analyses:

  1. AI Personal Colour Analysis — Discover your 12-season colour palette, undertone, best neutrals, metals, patterns and colours to avoid.
  2. AI Makeup Colour Analysis — Find the makeup shades that complement your colouring, including foundation, blush, eyeshadow and lipstick.
  3. AI Hair Colour Analysis — Discover your most flattering hair colour direction, highlights, dimension and shades to avoid.
  4. AI Face Shape Analysis — Understand your facial proportions and discover flattering hairstyles, makeup placement, glasses, earrings and necklines.
  5. AI Body Shape Analysis — Learn which silhouettes, fabrics, prints and colour combinations create balance and proportion for your body.
  6. AI Personal Style Identity — Bring everything together to create your signature aesthetic, outfit formulas, shopping priorities and wardrobe direction.

Which Personal Style prompt should I do first?

I recommend starting with this prompt first: AI Personal Colour Analysis. Colour analysis provides useful information for several of the later prompts, particularly your makeup, hair and colour style recommendations. For the best results, follow the system in this order: Colour → Makeup → Hair → Colour Style → Face Shape → Body Shape → Personal Style Identity. You don’t have to complete them all at once. You can work through them at your own pace.
